In China, there are detailed regulations for becoming a foreign teacher:
The individual needs to be engaged in teaching their native language.
They must hold a bachelor's degree or higher.
They need to have at least 2 years of work experience in language education.
So, what exactly is meant by
"teaching their native language"?
Taking English as an example, foreigners who want to teach English must be born in a country where English is the native or first language. Countries and regions where English is considered a native or first language include Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States, among others.
If you have a bachelor's degree or higher in education, linguistics, or a related field, or if you hold a teaching qualification from your home country, or if you meet the requirements for an international language teaching certificate, you may be exempted from the work experience requirement.

Once you meet these conditions, you can start preparing for the visa application process:
- Your employer or designated institution needs to submit a permit application on your behalf, which, once approved, allows you to apply for a Z visa or R visa.
- Within 15 days of entering China, you need to apply online for a Foreigner Work Permit.
- Finally, within 30 days of entering China with a valid visa, you need to go to the local Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration Department to apply for a Residence Permit for work purposes.
It's important to follow these steps and ensure compliance with the regulations to legally work as a foreign teacher in China.
